Homestead Rodeo - Saturday January 25, 2020. We will meet on the west side of the arena inside the rodeo grounds at 1:00 PM. That way the sun will be behind us. The rodeo starts at 2:00 PM but in order to get a spot along the fence line of the rodeo arena you need to be there by 1 PM because there will be many other photographers staking out their spots close to the gates where the bucking broncos, bulls, etc are released. Admission is $25. for adults this year.
Along the fence line you will be standing for 3 to 4 hours, so bring a water bottle and snacks. It is recommended that you bring one camera with a zoom lens that covers from wide angle to telephoto shots. Ideally your camera can fire rapidly (6 to 10 frames per second) and has fast autofocus that can follow the very fast action. A tripod is not practical for this type of shooting but a monopod could be useful if you have one. There is no shade where you will be standing, so bring a hat and sunscreen.
Trying to shoot from the bleachers is difficult because you have to stay seated, you will be farther from the action and you will have other people’s heads, etc. in the way. If you do decide that you want to sit in the bleachers, I recommend you go to the top row to get the best vantage point of the action.
Right now the long term weather forecast is not calling for rain on Saturday, but if it changes and there is high probability for rain, the field trip may be changed to Sunday if that is going to be a rain free day. Any changes will be posted on the website.
The location for the Homestead rodeo is at Harris Field which is on the SE corner of US 1 and Campbell Drive (SW 312 St.). If you take the turnpike go south , get off at exit 2 and travel west (turn left) on Campbell Dr. and drive until you get to the last left turn before US 1.
