As if editing and retouching wedding photographs isn’t a large enough task as it is, spare a thought for this wedding photographer, who had to alter the color of the mother-in-law’s dress after she wore white to the ceremony. [ Read More ]Original linkOriginal author: Jack Alexander
So….when I was recording my latest round of Lightroom in 60-Seconds I somehow wound up recording two tips that I already did last year, but I thought maybe you might have missed them (wishful thinking?), so I present both today (and a bonus video) in case, ya know, you mighta missed ’em first time around. And this little beauty (below) as well: And if you’ve ever wondered what I would look like a smoking jacket and pipe, then catch the third video (and perhaps most glorious of the bunch) which is a re-broadcast of Saturday’s “Book Chat” where I chat….about my books. It’s better than it sounds, but only slightly. I share a few cool Lightroom tips, and I unveil (for...

Photo By Harry Lichtman Washington state is home to some of the most dramatic and accessible coastlines in the U.S. Second Beach, near the town of LaPush, is a gem of the National Park System and boasts sea stacks, arches, tidal pools and expansive areas of sandy Olympic coast. During a spring visit to Olympic National Park, Second Beach was high on my list due to such a concentration of natural features. Spruce trees growing atop rocky sea stacks were one of the most compelling attributes that enticed me to this beach. The spring sun sets in the direction of Quateata Arch, so the lighting possibilities were a bonus. The forested walk to the beach is a gentle 0.7 miles, which...

We spend a lot of time discussing things like lighting, posing, editing, and the like, but one that perhaps does not get the amount of discussion it needs is the choice of backdrop. This fantastic video discusses a wide range of different backdrops and the pros and cons of each for different photographic applications. [ Read More ]Original linkOriginal author: Alex Cooke
“Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, just outside of Denver, Colorado, is a remarkable place to photograph grassland species like bison, prairie dogs, black-footed ferrets, raptors, coyotes, meadowlarks and variety of songbirds,” photographer Emma Balunek observes. “I visited one morning after a fresh snow hoping to make wildlife images and found a group of bison roaming and sticking their heads through the foot of snow to reach the vegetation beneath. “As the bison began to take a rest, a black-billed magpie flew into the herd and started searching for insects on this bison’s face. The bird was quite chatty, squawking in the bison’s ear. The bison shook its head in an attempt to get the magpie off, but it always returned,...

I recently picked up a Mint RF70, a fully manual camera designed to accept Fuji’s Instax Wide film. After capturing a few images with it over the past few days, I’m reminded of why I love instant film so much. Yes, it’s magical watching a print develop right in front of you, but that has nothing to do with why instant film is so exceptional. [ Read More ]Original linkOriginal author: Zac Henderson
Netflix’s "Extraction" has just become the most watched Netflix original film, with 90 million viewers over its first four-week period, which means director Sam Hargrave’s efforts paid off. In this newly released video, we see footage of how Hargrave straped himself to a car in order to film an epic one-take car chase scene. [ Read More ]Original linkOriginal author: Jack Alexander
This is another one of the questions asked during our Lightroom Conference (which we’ll get to below), and it brought up another question: If you were to create a preset that applied an Auto Adjustment, would it apply the same Auto Adjustment to every image (moving the sliders to the same exact locations for every image), or would it analyze each image separately as it imports them, so each image would be Auto corrected individually, even if they were imported as a group of images? Note: If you’re wincing at the thought of using Auto at all, I will tell you that today it’s vastly better than its ever been. It’s actually now quite useable as a starting place to being...

The post Nikon Launching Two New Mirrorless Cameras in 2020 appeared first on Digital Photography School. It was authored by Jaymes Dempsey. While Canon’s soon-to-debut mirrorless offerings have dominated the news, we have a new Nikon rumor to report: The imaging company will release two mirrorless cameras before the year is out. While the details of these cameras are uncertain, previous rumors have indicated that a Nikon Z8 is currently under development; this will be a “pro” body à la the Nikon D850 series, one that features a 60 MP sensor, a rugged build, and dual card slots. And given that the Z8 has been given a suggested “late 2020” or “early 2021” release date, such a camera would certainly fit...The Nikon Z8 may debut in 2020

The definition of travel is “to go on a journey, often of some length which typically occurs abroad.” That being said, people travel to work, the store and the mall, so travel needn’t be restricted by a designated number of miles or a definite time duration. There’s neither a minimum on the number of hours, days or weeks nor a minimum number of miles one must travel from home to meet the definition. The reason I make a big point of this is that many photographers restrict their photography to the times they travel great distances. Large gaps of time go on between vacations and the photo gears get rusty if photography is solely restricted to when you “travel.” Especially during...Travel Photography Close To Home

Last month, Fujifilm quietly revealed that it would be opening up the API around its lens autofocus to allow other manufacturers to start making lenses. Following on from the well-received and affordable 85mm f/1.8, Viltrox has created a 33mm f/1.4 — in effect, a nifty fifty — and the early reviews are starting to appear. The post Lightroom Preset Compatibility: XMP or LRTemplate Confusion? appeared first on Digital Photography School. It was authored by Adam Welch. Over the last couple of years, Adobe has made some enormous changes to its flagship post-processing software. In short, some of these changes can be slightly…confusing. As someone who uses Adobe Lightroom a lot (and I do mean A LOT), perhaps one of the most confusing changes to Lightroom to come down the pike was Adobe’s choice to change the format of its develop presets from .lrtemplate to .xmp. This has led to quite a bit of head-scratching from hobbyists and professional photogs alike over Lightroom preset compatibility. Today, once and for all (until Adobe changes things), we’re going to...Lightroom Preset Compatibility: XMP or LRTemplate Confusion?
